the light of God in him

My resolution this year was to see the light of God in everybody, but I’ve already seen it in him.

He cares, but he forgets that he does sometimes.
It’s okay, because I will always care and I will never forget, and mine will make up for his.
His hair dips and waves like the thoughts in his head. His smile is the brightest shape to grace my eyes. His smile lines will be beautiful.
My friend, yes, my enemy, yes, my desire and my hatred, my pretty and my ugly, my distance and my breath layering within his, yes. His eyes that shout with question marks, yes.
His words sit inside the bends of his elbows and knees and sing quietly but honestly, sweetly, with vigor and with fear, swinging their legs with a little bit of hope.
His hope is hiding but it is present. His hope is waiting for when he’s ready. His hope is patient. So is his faith.
He smiles, but he forgets why sometimes.
It’s okay, because I don’t always know but I will always remind him.
His rejection hits me from miles and miles away because pain is an excellent traveler.
It’s okay, because he is wonderful and I still can’t say exactly why.
His hands tighten around his world, but I can still feel them in mine.

He cares, but he forgets that he does.
It’s okay, because I’ve already seen the light of God in him.
