Featured in the I Love Birds group 24th April 2009

My neighbour came running on a wet very windy day to say a baby Galah had fallen from the sky … this is he.

The parents were flying round frantically with a crow sitting nearby on a tree stump. He would not have survived. I took him in & fed him parrot baby mix, got him warm & dry :D

Thank you for looking.

Very well done Tainia. Could have done with your services one day last year when a Carnaby Cockatoo was clearly distressed in our garden. After a lot of phoning around we managed to get a lady from the Carnaby Cockatoo Preservation Society to drive all the way up from Perth, capture the bird and take him down to the zoo, where the veterinary care is second to none. When and if the bird recovered it would be brought all the way back up here and released, when it’s family would very soon find it. For two days after it had been taken away there were two adult cockies quietly sitting in our banksia tree just waiting…… Peter

Thanks Rickyd – A lady in town wanted him as a companion bird, he is now named ‘Buzz’ and is adorable & very very tame! Over here approx only 10 out of 200 young galahs survive their first few months, he is one of the lucky ones!

Fantastic to hear this tainia, we have rescued two babies this year, one died (poor little thing) and the other we took to the local vet, who passed him on to a wildlife carer. We have not heard if he survived …. their mortality rate is high, as you say, but it’s nice to give them a helping hand ……

What a cutie pie… I had the greatest luck to hold one, pet one, kiss one, and fall in love with one. I wanted to buy her, but we already have one parrot. She was the sweetest parrot (we call them rose-breasted cockatoo’s here) that I ever met. She has since been adopted to a family.

I love your story, and I’m glad this Galah is now safe and sound, with a loving family. You have a wonderful heart, for rescuing this cockatoo.
