Turning the Page
When photography first evolved subjects had to sit still for a very long time during the exposure. This is an image of a family member circa 1890 or there abouts, I’m not certain. It must have been VERY frustrating not being able to turn the page!
What a way we have come with our instant digital age!!
Thank you for looking.
Dear fellow bubbler silverstrummer kindly wrote this poem which I’d like to put to the image, thank you very much!
A perfect pose for a perfect lady,
Antoinette is the name I shall call
The tight curls of Antoinette’s hair,
A Victorian look that blends with her chair,
What a perfect pose,
Straight lines right up to her nose!
Her dress flows so gently around her,
You can see it …..the way it lays it is with flair!
It cascades down to the floor,
But you cannot see if it is there!
The dress has see through arms with puffed up cuffs,
They compliment Antoinette and her studious looks!
The patience she has before turning the page,
Gives this photograph the quality and proof of its age!
As the faces behind the past look on,
Intrigued by what’s going on,
The one on the left a Cavalier of sorts,
Sporting a handlebar moustache.
Now study the face on the right,
Changing from a babe to an old man with side whiskers
To the fore front of this image an eye on its own
White clouds surround the face and head,
Making it look like sideburns and white beard
Looks like Santa, take a closer look,
Can you see what I can see?
These three faces of days gone past,
Seem so special to thee!
They deserve a place in your photograph album at last.

Gorgeous portrait with real charm, character and a sense of innocence and intrigue, Tai !!!! Thoroughly agree with you re: the progress in photography !!
Tainia Finlay replied
Thank you Phil, I love old photographs it reminds me of the thrill they must have experienced in seeing images for the first time .. I used to stand in the darkroom with my father watching him create magic & later did it for myself in my darkroom. Then there was the thrill of getting a set of prints and finding one amazingly good one … and now when we plug our CF card in and one image astounds us, the excitement, the joy! We have come along way but the thrills I think are the same though now instant!!

I’m with Wendy, I can see those forms and face too! Very serene image, even given the need to sit still :) You gotta just love that dress!
Tainia Finlay replied
LOL it’s a real ‘frou frou’ dress for sure! Probably 40 degrees in the shade too, this was taken in beautiful Australia! I hadn’t noticed the ‘faces’ before Wendy and you pointed them out Sonia … they do look like their there ô¿ô
