Old School

Old School

This was once a school. ‘Waugan School’ My dear friend and neighbour Arthur used to attend there as a boy. It closed in 1943 & held 10 pupils maximum.

On closer inspection it is occupied today. You can see the dweller on the chimney, a ‘Willy Wagtail’ who wasn’t at all keen on me being at his home!

Lachlan Valley, rural NSW

Thank you for looking.

Old School belongs to the following groups:

Australian Landmarks and Icons, Rural NSW and UK to Australia and Back Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

Great work mate and we took photos in more than one school like this in NSW. It would be very interesting to know how many of THEM are now in this condition. I know for sure of one – at GARAH in the state’s north – where we were told that their school had just been sold for the princely sum of $5. But it was going to cost the buyer close to $5000 to have it trucked out!! I love the light in this photo and I bet that willy wagtail is not the only inhabitant!! Hugs, Peter

  • Tainia Finlay replied

Thank you Peter, I wasn’t game to venture in to see what else lived there ô¿ô

It was beautiful, early evening while there is still some warmth in the sun. Hugs, Tai x

Another great shot of an old building. I hope that old buildings like this always litter the Aussie landscape…they really add character. It’s probably in better condition then some of our present day schools.

  • Tainia Finlay replied

Thank you Sharon, my dear friend Arthur used to arrive to school in a Silky (sp) Wonderful history of a beautiful country.
