Acrylic and impasto on canvas board.

I have no idea why I chose the colour palette that I did except that it works!

I want to share what I am learning as I paint these. When I painted this, apart from the reference photos for the poses, nothing else is anything like the photos. I kept in my mind some very important rules to stop me from making some big mistakes I’ve made in the past.

Rule One: keep it easy on the eye!
Rule Two: Keep the focus on the important parts of the painting and fade out the not so important parts (a tip shared with me by the wonderful Reynaldo of redbubble).

I did have a Sara Moon type image floating around in my mind as I painted the spirit lady and so I knew I wanted to fade out areas around her to emphasise her beautiful face.

i really like this palette tahnja, great work…you really put alot of thought and creativity in your works :)

  • Yes I sure do lovely Nancy! I want to get it right and in order to do that I have to put a lot of effort into it until it becomes second nature….you know…when we are learning then it takes effort but once it is ingrained then it becomes natural. Hugs. Thank you so much for a wonderful compliment.

I love the mood of this one. Very well done

  • Hugs….my dear friend! Yeah, me too,,,,something mystical and very spiritual about it that I really love and the impasto somehow reminds me of birds? And the lady almost seems as though she is moving slowly across the painting…..I soooo love it when unexpected things like that happen. That’s when art becomes exciting for me. Hugs

Stunning , i love here face and the eyes are so deep , she looks like she can see through the viewer .. great job Tahnja

  • Wow, I got goosebumps when you said that! Yes, I agree that her spirit really seems to ooze from this painting. I am honoured that eyes still remain my special gift when it comes to art and I feel it’s always been such an important emphasis and development of my work. I get chills and butterflies when I have got the eyes right where they need to be.

I am so honoured that you have paid me a visit. Thank you so much Al!

Very lovely, so ghostly and mystical. Gorgeous work Tahnja!

  • Hello beautiful Kim! I am so pleased you have stopped by to view my new work. Yes, it is rather ghostly (I almost wrote ghastly! lol) and I think that’s what I love about it, that sense of spirit! And the impasto reminds me of birds! A lovely affect that has happened unintentionally. Hugs

The colors are so spiritual looking. Cloud like and the subjects are so peaceful looking.
    This is out standing Tahnja.
    Hugs :))

  • Exactly….I think that’s where I mind went when I was painting this…I just kinda went in to that spirit mode and wanted that feeling. And I love that you noticed that they are peaceful…love that. Also, the impasto tends to look somehow like birds? I think this adds to overall sense of spirit and peace….I love it when unexpected things like that happen. It’s a wonderful feeling.

Your welcome and also, did you notice in your close up that she and the horse have Aura’s?

  • Ohhhhh now there’s an observation I missed! Now that you mention it though it does look like they do! gives me that wonderful sense of presence that I love my painting to have…..hugs
