Lead pencil, coloured pencils and touch of white paint for the highlights in the eyes on sketch paper.
Portrait of my daughter Jaymi. 14yrs old.

Jaymi continues to be a great source of inspiration to me in so many ways. Her talents, personality and God given light are the treasure of my soul.
I’ve never been much of a lead pencil artist. I thought I would try and change that. I bought myself a little sketch book to work in and this is the first one. I really love limited colour with lead pencil.

Oh so delicate looking, beautiful and full of spirit. Wonderful art piece :) Hugs
Hugs…thank you so much beautiful Anne! It was a wonderful piece to force myself to be more patient and observant. I’ve never had much patience for pencil lol.

Oh I think you are going to change that “not much of a lead pencil artist” thing pretty quickly. This is beautiful, and I love the touch of color with graphite too. You are so good w/ portraiture, especially your angelic faced daughter!
Hi Tammy! You are very kind Tammy to say such lovely things! I think with time I might get a bit better at this lol…..the support means so much! And yeah, I’m kinda just a bit obsessed with Jaymi lol….though she loves it that I am! Jaymi thought this was excellent as well, she prefers lead pencil to colour.
I love faces, you know that, so I guess that love transfers into the work…hugs

beautiful tender image, the love shines through, you just pick up a pencil and presto magnifico, you are so blessed, i think you could create a masterpiece if all you had was a piece of cardboard and a lump of coal, go tahnja, let it flow
Maddy, you are always so kind to me…..and honestly, how can one not fall in love with this face? lol….I figure if you’re gonna learn a new skill then choose a subject matter that you really love…definitely helps lol. Biggest hugs

Goodness, if this is you not feeling like much of a lead pencil artist…imagine when you do feel like one coz this is just absolutely beautiful and I can feel your love for the subject(your daughter)…look forward to more well executed pieces…
Hi Jewd. Honestly, I’ve never been very good with graphite. I have artistic friends who are so good that I never bothered to even try again but I decided that’s just stupid. High time I tried to brush up on my pencil skills and learn to soften my lines more.
I very much appreciate your very kind words and support. I do love Jaymi very much, she’s a typical ‘pull your hair out’ teenager lol but is my inspiration in so many ways

This is just gorgeous!!! You’ve captured her beauty and free spirit perfectly.
And like the others have said, you definitely have the skill for pencil work… I guess it’s the old mantra of “practice makes perfect”!

Hello Sarah! I really appreciate the thumbs on my humble pencil skills, I think I might do some more and see what happens….will try to soften my lines more, I still tend to use too hard a lines….must work on that….hugs

Beautiful work!
You’ve captured her face so well! I even like the eyes in your art better than the photo. You gave more depth to them. : ))
