10” x 8”.

There are 3 images which are designed as a set as shown below.

I wanted to work more with a limited palette. I’ve always loved those old photos that are so full of dreamy softness and beautiful settings.

How lovely! I’ve often wondered what to do with my gold and metallic paints. This is very inspiring!

  • Tahnja replied

Thank you! Yes, I love gold paint especially and I actually used two, antique gold and then highlighted again with light gold. I used straight impasto medium to add texture to the background and I also etched out the roses with a palette knife before I added colour.

I like this little series. She looks a bit sad…when I saw these I thought of the goddess Rhiannon. Beautiful pieces Tahnja.

  • Tahnja replied

Yes I agree that they all seem to carry a little bit of sadness in them, I think the limited palette also strengthens that sense with the blues and whites. Love the reference to the Goddess Rhiannon! Hugs

  • Tahnja replied

What a beautiful comment! I really learned a great deal from these limited palette pieces and leveling out the mid-tones was a great challenge! I am desperately and obsessively trying to learn a much more impressionistic style because that is my great love but I am finding it tough to get a handle on. Small steps as they say!

Again, I am so honoured. Thank you with all my heart Sylvia

    maxy

This is so wonderful! I love horses.. her expression is so interesting and guarded – I can see that she too loves her wonderful big friend. What a beauty this whole piece is!!!! Spectacular strokes and color! xx

  • Tahnja replied

Hi Maxy!!!! Thank you for truly appreciating the love in this and the emotion. Yes indeed, it very much embodies the essence of my love for horses, both deep, affectionate and very protective of their character.

I work with racehorses for a living and have to deal with a lot of people who claim to have been around horses all their lives but that does not automatically constitute that they qualify to be a horseman/woman. Drives me MAD! for instance, I have a few horses that I care for who are very close to me and although they can be very difficult to handle at times they take comfort in my understanding of them and I can handle them very easily. Others will handle these same horses that I am close to and they will go absolutely berserk because they are being handled roughly and know they are not comforted or loved. Horses are NOT STUPID ANIMALS and it drives me crazy how many people I come across who claim to know so much about horses but RARELY and I do mean RARELY do they know them at all.

I am blessed with a boss who is a gifted horseman and trainer. He listens to me as much as I listen to him and that in itself is one amazing level of respect for one another. I just wish some people would drop their egos and learn something new like how to LISTEN to a horse properly!

Anyway, you caught me on a rant today LOL!!! Thank you so much for stopping by and listening!
