The Judge

The Judge

Acrylic finished with gloss varnish on canvas board, 12” x 16.

This sent shivers up my spine when I first sketched this. It is inspired by the work of the old masters.

Original in my private collection.

Detail

Immediately I knew what this painting was all about and what the Lord desired to convey as it is just as important a message as is His great love.

Luke 13:24-27

Strive to enter by the narrow gate; for many, I say to you, shall seek to enter, and shall not be able.

But when the master of the house shall be gone in, and shall shut the door, you shall begin to stand without, and knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us. And he answering, shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are.

Then you shall begin to say: we have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

And he shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

  • Tahnja replied

He is rather powerful in His presence and I don’t blame people for finding it difficult to view His piercing gaze….so thank you for taking the time to appreciate this work and to comment. Praise be to the Lord and God bless you

TO KNOW HIM, IS TO LOVE HIM, IN THE SAME WAY THAT HE LOVE ME AND YOU, TAHNJA.

  • Tahnja replied

That’s absolutely correct for as St Paul said very brilliantly ”...if you do not have love then you have nothing…”

Very powerful Tahnja!!! Both the Word and the painting! His face is beautifully and sensitively painted, my friend! Keep pairing the Word with your images. This is a truth we need to contemplate!

  • Tahnja replied

Oh Jean, I am so deeply please to hear you say that. What a lovely compliment to my intense and heartfelt work which is inspired by His great love.

For so long I have been frustrated and annoyed with so many images of Him over the centuries as appearing almost weak and soft. He is so much more than just the love that everyone seems to think makes Him soft. His power and authority are eternal. He is power and strength and I do feel that it is important that we all take the time to honour this as well as His great and eternal love and mercy.

Some people need to be afraid and be humbled before they truly connect with the Lord…that is really what this painting is all about in many ways…for all of us to remember His full power and authority.

  • Tahnja replied

I couldn’t be more thrilled with your wonderful comment Louise though I feel that His gaze is too much for most lol….but then again His piercing gaze was my intent

  • Tahnja replied

Thank you for sharing that with me. This image of the Lord is meant to show that He is the Just Judge as well as the loving and merciful Lord. None of us are perfect but He is therefore His gaze does instill a healthy sense of fear, at lest I feel that this is how it should be

Tahnja, have you ever tried to paint Jesus as described in the book of Revelation??? I’d love to see what you would come up with. I’ve been ask to do that but I have never been brave enough to try to paint our Lord, such a heavy responsibility to portray Him correctly.

  • Tahnja replied

You mean the image of Him returning on the White horse as King of Kings? I too would feel overwhelmed by that request but someday He may inspire me to show Him in this light, I would have to wait for the inspiration, I never attempt to paint Him until He impresses the feeling upon me. What a lovely compliment that you would think of me for sucha painting. Thank you my dear friend, I am deeply honoured

It is beautiful as He is and always my strength. It seems we have a lot in common…..I am from Germany also lived in Hamburg….Was a single mother for 12 years raising 4 children myself…..(with HIS help)

  • Tahnja replied

oh wow, I rarely meet Germans and even fewer women so it’s such a pleasure to meet you! YEs indeed we do seem to share much in common. I don’t know what I would do without Jesus, can’t even bare to go back and think about what it was like without Him…I’m a convert, previously been raised with no faith at all…..very lonely and sad place that was…...hugs. God bless you and thank you so much for appreciating this very strong depiction of Jesus that most people stay away from lol
