EULOGY

If I had to give my own eulogy

In that moment of truth

Could I honestly say

What I did and didn’t do…?

If in order to be free

Soar to all the un-lived desires

Could I face me

Or face the low fires…?

Could I look out at the sea of eyes

And recognize a spark

That was my touch

Or simply drown in unsympathetic cries.

As I gazed upon my face

Would I wish me well

Would my place on Earth be marked

Or would I damn me to hell

If I had to give my own eulogy

Could I be honest

Or would my parting gift be bowed head silence

Taking all secrets with me?
