My father has a lemon tree that my sister elizabeth aptly named “the sacred lemon tree”
It’s a magical lemon tree ..it’s been growing for more than 38 years and should have died off by now as lemon trees usually only live for a certain number of years 15-20 years I’ve been told..dad has looked after this tree so well..and we enjoy our time picking the ripe fruit and they are so wonderful..the aroma of the ripe lemons ..the flowers and the fruit is something unforgettable as we all know and the uses for the humble lemon are inumerable. a bitter or sour fruit yet so healing and just so lovely ..we miss his lemons when there are no fruits on the tree..and look forward to the bounteous crops when it does fruit ..a number of times in the year .
In our family the lemon tree is thought of as a rather mystical and healing tree..and I hear these days that the lemon is part of the “super foods” group..which means that it has incredible healing properties for the human body ..so this is great news for the humble lemon .. I really wanted to show how much I appreciate this special fruit tree… despite it’s large and dangerous thorns which have “Got me” on numerous occassions!..I’ve notice that in nature that some of the most beautiful and the most healing of plants and trees seem to posess thorns or other weapons..maybe to make it harder for us to get to the prize! the rose is a perfect example of this..and the lemons thorns are so much bigger and stronger.. lemons are an extremely healing fruit .. and I use them as much as I can in my cooking and sometimes as a natural cosmetic ..in my hair and in my drinks.. nothing can quite compare to that gorgeous aroma of a freshly cut lemon.. my heart expresses it’s love for this tree in this simple painting so I hope you enjoy it too!
