PIGEON TOWER
The information says: “Built in 1910, the Pigeon Tower was an elaborate summerhouse and lookout with three storeys linked by a stone spiral staircase. Ornamental doves and pigeons were kept in adjacent dove cotes and lofts, whilst the Pigeon Tower was reputedly used by Lady Lever for a sewing room.
Extensive repair works have been undertaken to this building including the replacements of the floors in 1974 and in 2005 it was completely re-roofed.”
It is a fantastic place to visit! Which is located in Rivington Pike, Lancashire near Winter Hill!

Amazing work well done !
billyboy
Rivington Pike? I had no idea this building existed, and your shot probably makes it look even cooler than it actually is. Wondefully composed and enchanting image, and I’m dying to stroll down that pathway to explore what’s around the corner. Can you go inside? I’ll definitely look it up now next time I’m in Lancs!
SylviaHardy
Hi billyboy! Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. You will love the walks around here. It is something very special. I think so any way. This tower is locked, but the Terraced garden that surounds it is definately something to see! Lord Leverhulme had some amazing vision of what a garden should look like. Apparently it covers across 45 acres of stepped walkways and mixed woodland!
SylviaHardy
And also thank you so much Jase, almost didn’t recognise you, lol!
SylviaHardy
Sorry Irene for missing you out! It wasn’t intentional. Thank you so much for your very kind feedback!

SylviaHardy
Thank you very much AngelArtist for your fery kind comments which I really do appreciate! The tower I asume is locked to stop vandalism.

Mark Coward
I think this is my favourite Pigeon Tower shot, I wouldn’t know how to go about photographing this now. It’s yours.
SylviaHardy replied
That is very kind for you to say so Mark. But I am sure that you will be able to capture real atmosphere there either very early at dusk, or even in moonlight, who knows? I can only galavant through the day when my little girl has gone to school and my dearest husband is not able to walk up there with me at night due to his disability. It would be very interesting to see a nightshot of this photogenic tower!
SylviaHardy replied
Oh yes, and I ment to say thank you too :-))
Mark Coward
Ok Sylvia, I’ll see what I can do!
SylviaHardy replied
Brilliant, look forward to it :-))
Mark Coward
I’m going to be waiting for the darker nights… so it may take a while.
SylviaHardy replied
Just make sure you take some friends with you, it is a very isolated place and lots of undesirables I should imagine?
Mark Coward
Thanks Sylvia. I’ve seen the burnt out cars… I’m going to go disguised as a hoodie, in a tank.
