I am hereby officially tendering my resignation

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year-old again. I want to go to Mc Donald’s and think that it’s a four star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn’t bother you, because you didn’t know what you didn’t know and you didn’t care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again. I want to live simple again. I don’t want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.
So…here’s my checkbook and my car keys, my credit cards and all my responsibility. I am officially resigning from adulthood.
And if you want to discuss this further, you’ll have to catch me first, ‘cause,
“Tag! You’re it.”

Great spiel. So easy to relate to as we’ve all been ‘there’ and are now ‘here’.
The irony is we couldn’t wait to ‘grow up’ during those younger, more simple years.

M&M’s are money in this house!!
All chocolate is a form of currency.

(remembering chasing sticks leaves whatever down the curb after a good rain or dad just wahing the car.)
    oh to be 8

i returned all my credit cards to the bank a year ago after a cataclysmic lack of adult responsibility.. i wish i could return the rest, the car keys, the cheque book that bridges the gap between the “more days in the month than there is money in the bank” , writimg a cheque, it’s like that Jerry Seinfeld routine, like handing the cashier a note from your mum, “simon doesn’t have any money today but he will be ok for next week, please take his cheque, i’l vouch for him”. I suffer cruciate embarrassment whenever i resort to writing cheques as they really are redundant.. the last refuge of the financially insecure.

I sometimes wonder how i got this far and then add some perspective and realise that all i’m doing is living in a treehouse and keeping the world out by rolling up the rope ladder. I am 8 Robin in so many ways.. but tomorrow, somebody will rely on me to keep em out of jail and, in my tie, i will bridge the gap by the most spectacular bluff and tricksterism, something we call adulthood.

    Lovely post Robin!

I didn’t know Robin but after just reading that she’s passed away and then reading this has made me cry.
She’s now making ripples in the water with skimming stones and then lying under the big oak tree.
Rest in Peace sister of the world.
Sending you my prayers, love and good thoughts.
