Half Dome At Sunset
This image was captured from Olmsted Point in the high country of Yosemite National Park just before sunset. Half Dome is a true natural wonder of the world in itself and was lit with this wonderful light from the setting sun. Needless to say I was very fortunate to have been “at the right place at the right time”, which is what landscape/nature photography is mostly all about.

Great shot Stephen! Was this taken during late october thru April? I was wondering because I have a theroy that you get a softer, whiter light that time of the year as opposed to a warmer light may thru september. Have you ever notice that or I am jsut imagining that? This looks like the softer, white.
Stephen Vecchi... replied
Thanks for viewing & commenting Randy. This was actually shot in early June. I have not noticed the differences in light, although it makes sense with the placement in the sky of the sun at different times of the year. It’s pretty tough getting up to Olmsted from Nov. through April because of the high amounts of snow. I actually like the view of the dome here better than anywhere else in the park.

This is one of the most awesome shots I have seen of this often photographed landmark! Well done indeed!!

Really great shot. Nice point of view! Great mood!
Stephen Vecchi... replied
Thank you for viewing & commenting. Olmstead Point gives a totally different perspective/view of Half Dome than down on the valley.

I love this view of Half Dome from Olmstead Point. I lived in Yosemite when this part of the Tioga Pass Road was only one lane. Downhill traffic yielded to up hill traffic and was a 21 mile stretch…Lynn
Stephen Vecchi... replied
Lynn – a belated thanks for your kind comment. Wish I could live in this area like you.
