Hello to all
It’s with a heavy heart I’m writing this, and the reason is that I want to spread the word so that all who read this will feel, think, realise and, hopefully react against and do all they can to influence in whatever they can, cruelty against animals.
What am I talking about?
Headlines on the BBC News and other forms of media in the last 24 hours have highlighted an absolutely barbaric and abhorrent Dog Fight in Birmingham, England.
The atrocious acts involve men ranging from 16 to 40 – apparently a group of up to 10 of them (and these are the ones that were caught red-handed), setting up the biggest and most cruel dog fight staged in a person’s (and I use the word person with trepidation here), home kitchen for the entertainment of some very sick ,twisted and perverted monsters !!!
Police officials who became involved because the jeering and commotion was heard outside the premises, say that this is the worst act of cruelty involving dog fights in the UK since the times of Queen Victoria in the 18 hundreds, in Southwark, London.
The obvious problems speak for themselves – Monsters committing obscenely cruel and barbaric acts against defenceless and vulnerable animals MUST BE STOPPED!!! – however this is what the prosecution Judge dished out as punishment to these despicable less than human individuals -
A 4 month prison sentence and correction – as in education to prevent them doing this again (can you believe this???) and these individuals are not allowed to have a pet dog for the next 5 years!!
Is this judgement fair? No need to answer that question – we all know the answer!!
How can this be allowed to be treated as a minor slap on the wrist offence?
I know there are thousands of animal lovers in this group – and that is why I am writing this and hoping to spread the word – because even if you think you are not able to make a difference – you are – We can all make a difference – by firstly being aware, and then the rest is up to each individual about how they are able to act against these crimes against our fellow creatures who need our help!
The WWF and RSPCA do get involved and are actively seeking to stamp out these monstrous cruel acts against animals in structured organised ways that actually do see change happening.
But
To all members reading this in the UK – the only way this can be eradicated on a society level which is PERMANENT – is for the laws to change against cruelty to animals! – And to keep our ears and eyes open!!
Question
What deterrent is a 4 month sentence and being prohibited from owning a pet dog for 5 years I ask?
Answer
Probably nothing at all!!
Problem
Is that good enough? – ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
I am interested to hear from all that are in any way involved in or are able to be involved in doing something – in whatever capacity to act against these crimes being committed
If a human child or adult are treated in this way the penalties for assault, manslaughter or even murder are far more severe – Why are we not treating our fellow inhabitants on this planet with the equal respect and protection that they so rightly deserve?
Make no mistake – these are hard core criminals setting up dogs to fight to the death for their entertainment – Do we really have a place for them in our societies? Should they be allowed to get away with this with a slap on the wrist?
These monsters are MURDERERS and must be made accountable for their actions!!!
YOUR CONSIDERED FEEDBACK, COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION WITH RESULTS ARE VITAL!
I hope we can take this as seriously as it is and that the animal lovers, decent people, and those in positions that can actually facilitate change that has to take place, (of whom there are thousands in this very group) – will rise to the occasion and hopefully we can begin a course of action that makes change HAPPEN!!

I’m completely against dog fights and ANY animal cruelty, period. I’m in America now but I come from England and haddn’t seen this in the news but it happens all around the world and globally it needs to stop. I see so many animals at the local rescue centre each month that its actually heartbreaking to hear about some of the conditions which some of these animals have come from and its saddening to know that some of them have to be put down if they’re beyond reform anger and behaviour wise or savagly hurt.
I am unable to do anything about this spacific incident in the UK, but I am always spreading the word on the other side of the water, so anything I can do, is something, right!?
If anyone harmed a single hair on my dog, I don’t think they’d get the luxury of 4 months free bed and board at her majesty’s pleasure.

Good to hear from you – and that you are actively on the look out about these obscene crimes against dogs (and other animals)!
Take a look at this article from the BBC about this subject in Helsinki:-

Suzanne you are perfectly right! That is no punishment at all… It makes no sense! I can never understand how people can do that to animals.
Suzanne German replied
Hi Astrid – good to hear from you…this is also in the group forum as a watched thread where others who are members of the RSPCA and Amnesty have commented….

This is what the spokesperson for the RSPCA has to say:-
A change in the law is needed to tackle a rise in dog fighting that is leaving an increasing number of animals with horrific injuries, the RSPCA has said.
The existing ban on four breeds was inadequate and the law must “focus back on the real problem… the owner”, said the charity’s Claire Robinson.
Dog fighting-related calls to the RSPCA had risen 12-fold since 2004, with two thirds involving youths, it said.
Ministers say penalties for dog fighting have been toughened.
City parks
The new wave of dog fighting, known as “chain fighting” or “rolling”, involves informal fights often held in inner city public parks, says the RSPCA.
“[People] are seeing young people, often gangs of young people, in parks, on estates, some even put two dogs in a lift at the top of the block of flats and will press the button and let the dogs fight until they get to the bottom,” Ms Robinson told BBC News.
“Fortunately they are reporting it to us and the police, but often by the time we get there the people are gone and the dogs can’t be found.”
The RSPCA says a new generation are using rottweilers (left) in dog fights
But one eye-witness who contacted the BBC said he felt complaints to police about dog abuse and fighting were on the increase, but not taken seriously enough.
Teg Davies was on a family trip to the park in Mill Hill, London, to play football with his sons, when he saw three men, “kicking two dogs and throwing them at each other to provoke them”.
He says no-one came to investigate, despite a call to local police.
Ministers say there are now tougher penalties for dog fighting and that the new Policing and Crime Bill will make it easier to seize dogs owned by criminal gangs.
But the RSPCA insists the authorities still have limited powers to seize dogs kept by their owners as weapons.
The charity is seeing dogs with “unprecedented levels” of injuries, says the charity’s David Grant.
“We see two or three fights most days. At the weekend it can be quite bad – a few weekends ago we had 10”, he said.
“We frequently see ears torn off, eyes torn out. In my career as a vet – nearly 42 years – this is the worst it has ever been.
“I have never seen things as bad as this.”
‘Limited powers’
The Dangerous Dogs Act, which came into force in 1991, bans four different breeds – the pit bull terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro.
But NHS figures show dog attacks have tripled since 1991, with many blamed on cross-bred dogs which are not illegal.
Rottweilers or Staffordshire bull terriers were often involved in the “ad hoc” fights staged by gangs of young men in parks, the RSPCA said.
The charity wants the law to focus on people keeping aggressive dogs as a status symbol or weapon, with more checks on owners and stiffer penalties for people mistreating dogs or keeping them for criminal use.
“It’s a lot to do with the sort of MTV gang culture – people want to look hard, they want to look tough, with a dog that looks tough,” Ms Robinson said.

Hi Suzanne, I identify with your abhorrence of their conduct, but would really be interested in what sentence/punishment you would impose?
Suzanne German
Hi John
I would treat these perverted criminals the way they would be treated had they committed the crimes against a human adult or child!!
The penalty should be commensurate with the act – in this case WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MURDER!!
My answer to your question is that murder should be a crime punishable with a life sentence whether it is committed against a human mammal or any other mammal on this planet!
Suzanne
Suzanne German
John…please go and read the link posted on the BBC News page by Claire Robinson from the RSPCA ….and especially where the Vet talks about the dogs (the ones that manage to survive and often only for short periods, after they are brought to him at times)....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8288182.stm
then draw your own conclusion – I am interested to hear what you think after reading that.
ALSO
Watch the video and the vivid pictures of the injuries on these helpless and vulnerable dogs
Should the crimes against animals be treated more leniantly than those against humans?
I THINK NOT!!

Congratulations…

some years now since pit bulls were banned but my husband told a distressing story of a guy out walking his pit bull – a well trained and gentle family pet – he met up with a stranger who also had a pit bull – the stranger said ‘my dog doesn’t like your dog’ and set his animal to attack – it killed the family pet before any action to restrain it could be taken and the stranger made a swift get away…
i own a gentle doberman and yet he is never left alone with children [children can do silly things and dogs may missread them]no doubt he would put up a brave fight if stressed but i never wish to witness such a dreadful act

Suzanne German replied
The tale you tell is horrendous – just goes to show that it is not the animal’s fault
It’s the owners that are responsible for the actions of their pets
You say that Pit Bulls were banned and I noticed you are from Lancashire…..where are you referring to about the ban?
igotmeacanon
is it still ok to eat them they taste sooooooo good in black bean sauce
Suzanne German replied
igotmeacanon – certainly can’t say igotmeasenseofhumour

Suzanne German replied

Anna Larson
I think it is awesome that you are making others aware… as I told you in the forum…These people are a danger not just to animals, but possibly to little children who knows with heartless people like this…:)
Suzanne German replied
Hi Anna – you’re absolutely right….it’s so sad that people like this exist and get away with this cruelty in our society!
Thanks for your encouraging comments – hope lots of people are thinking and keeping their eyes and ears open.

This needs to stop ASAP but how, yes we can write and read about it but how can we stio this? I am working with the NSPCA here andI see cruelty all the time. The problem with the dogfights is that they are done pivatly so we will bethe last ones to hea about it. I am so frustrated that dog fights still going on but people think about money and money only and do not care about a dog and that a dog feels the same pain that we do. So sad
Suzanne German replied
Yes it is sad and true people can’t seem to understand that suffering is wrong for people or animals – they hurt and bleed like we do.
And lovely to hear from you.
