Kayaking on the Gulf of Mexico near the island of Cedar Key, Florida.
When I shot this, we were in a boat on our way out to the Seahorse Key Lighthouse off Cedar Key. The lighthouse is not really visible from Cedar Key as it is a short one, doesn’t rise up high in the air like most lighthouses. You can only visit the lighthouse once a year as the University of Florida leases it from the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge and uses it for a bird rookery. The island is spectacular with its gazillions of birds… pelicans, cormorants, anhingas, sandpipers and myriad other species. The beaches are white sand which is odd in this part of Florida and kayakers paddle out to it on this one day of the year on which it is open.
