Possession

Possession

Cassa Marie with her new kitty.
I love how the camera can capture different expressions moment to moment and how they contrast so sharply with one another.
Then, of course the treatment can change the mood and define it even further.. Is Photography and the moment it freezes real or an illusion?

Possession belongs to the following groups:

    BRILLIANT….........love the tones….but mostly HER Expression….......wowwwww !

  • susi lawson replied

Thank you Jacqleen, I shot a bunch of these and was going thru them and stopped at this one and thought…whoa, great expression. I think her brother had just ticked her off in that one second..

  • Elizabeth Burton

    Elizabeth Burton

Wickedly perfect and very true, the treatment does play a big part in how a photo can be perceived… I’m sure it was a very sweet loving moment but I love your twist on it and her expression :)

  • susi lawson replied

Thanks Elizabeth, you know kids , they can change their mood in an instant and that was what was happening here…right from ” My brother ticks me off” to the next Frame of “I love my kitty”

  • Daryl Gordon

    Daryl Gordon

fantastic shot, thats the beauty sometimes it’s very illusional and other times it’s all too real

  • susi lawson replied

Thanks Daryl, yes, sometimes the raw is way too raw…and without a witness it can be hard to know if it is a moment or a life.

  • Andy Smylie

    Andy Smylie

The processing suits the look to a “T”. Always liked this style.

  • susi lawson replied

Thanks Andy, had a hard time with the title, but that is how it felt to me..but maybe not to her.

  • susi lawson replied

I just realized , you were commenting on the processing, not the title, thanks! Yes, felt the expression needed an edgy treatment

Susi, a slight variation from your usual style, I love the intimacy of this as you hone in on the essential elements resulting in an engaging composition and a unique way of filling your frame.

And you are so right about the camera freezing the moment and not always telling us the truth… the camera says “Cassa needs to wash her face”, or “the kitten`s black stripes are actually painted on with a non-permanent felt pen”...
But it could very well be that Cassa`s face was much dirtier before the kitten started licking off the chocolate and now he`s gonna be sick but has turned away cause he doesn`t want to vomit over the little girl he loves even more than licking chocolate off little girls’ faces.

Actually Susi, it`s got nuthin to do with the camera… it`s just YOU with the amazing ability to tell a sweet love story and bring a wee tear to our eye. Your camera is simply a window to your beautiful soul.
