Purpose
I’ve observed that when life throws bad stuff your way, it’s the personal purpose (beyond the connections and responsibilities we all have) that manages to keep us afloat. At the moment, life is throwing stuff at me with gale-force strength and, so far at least, I am still swimming with my head above water, by holding on to my purpose and passion of photography, art and writing. These aspects o…
Rant for the day
I’m starting to like Marieke Hardy: http://www.theage.com.au/news/entertainment/tv—radio/years-most-vile-show/2009/07/01/1246127569460.html
Although I have to say that it would have more credibility if this critique was written by a woman who was not young, attractive and who had not yet felt like she became increasingly invisible as she aged. I wholeheartedly agree with her sentiments, but…
Grungy alleys in Melbourne - suggestions?
Tomorrow I want to shoot some lovely grungy alleys in Melbourne city, to do some nice cross-processing etc on, and I know of a few, but I would like some suggestions from other Melbourne folk?
Press article
I was interviewed by The Age recently, primarily to promote my photo agency. Here is the edited/heavily interpreted result: http://business.theage.com.au/business/how-to-create-your-own-career-20090516-b6vf.html
Unfortunately, the agency (iStockphoto) didn’t get a mention in the finished piece, and they spelt my name wrong, but such is life, eh?
My online life
When I was growing up in the 1960s I couldn’t have imagined the morning I just had today! I can remember a time before cordless phones, let alone mobile ones, and I still remember seeing my first computer – it filled a large room.
First thing today I ordered a special guitar to computer lead for my son from an online store, then I received a case of wine I ordered online from a supplier. Soo…
Photographing live bands
Had a great experience recently when I photographed a friend’s pub rock band, ‘Hardwired’ at a gig at Beaconsfield (great night – go and see them if you get the chance). They needed some new pics and I needed the experience. I’ve never done with type of shoot before and it was certainly challenging – low light, coloured lights, uneven lighting (couple of the band members were mostly in shadow, ...
Away for a while
I’m off tomorrow to Berlin for an iStockphoto photography conference – away for about a week. Should be mighty cold over there, so I hope I survive (although the shoots will all be indoors). It’s a great opportunity to learn lots, get some great shots (I hope) and do a lot of networking with photographers from all over the world :)
Empowered beauty workshop
Well, I’ve spend part of the last few days going through my shots from the workshop last Saturday and, apart from beating myself that I’m not a better photographer, I’ve been so impressed with the model, and loving the way every shot I select seems to have a different feel to it. I’ve been wanting to do more portraiture for the past year, and I feel like I’ve made a breakthrough now. I find peo…
Lensbaby
Finally bought a lensbaby and it should be delivered in time for fun on the weekend :)
Going to be a bit busy
Lots of changes in my life at the moment, so I won’t have much time for RB. I apologise in advance for all the comments I don’t acknowledge and the wonderful work that I don’t leave comments for. Hopefully my transitions will be smooth and I will be able to get back to playing in photoshop again soon. Wish me luck!
