I promise I will not miss you when you are gone.
I will not listen for your voice in the quiet moments,
Nor long for your touch on my flesh.
Time will reflect your image, though,
Even when my tongue no longer speaks your name.

I promise I will not cry when you are gone.
I will hold back the tears until I choke,
The lump in my throat so big that I cannot breathe
And the aching in my soul for a day long gone.
In the quiet moments, I promise that I will not cry.

A promise that may be hard to keep. I feel this is a promise of letting go.

Oh Dear that reminds me of my late wife. 17 years on and a lot of water under the bridge and yet…....

    Beautiful words Dearheart.

Beautiful words Susan. Strong silent sadness with loud strength. You’ll make it through. The hardest part is the starting, the easiest part is the arrival.
