This little Barbary Ape (Macaca Aylvasus) was at the Las Vegas Zoo which I visited today for the very first time. Me as an animal lover do not like to see animals in captivity at all so I try not to go to Zoos but I just had to since I have heard not to many good things about the Zoo. I thought the Zoo was very well kept very clean and the lady that fed the animals knew all these stories that she shared about the animals. Wild animals were brought into the Zoos because of money hungry humans or just plain stupid humans who want wild animals as pets as the Cougar which I will upload shortley. When I saw this Monkey going through his fur looking for fleas or mites and his partner came and helped I just said to myself that they do not belong here. He or she was just looking very sad and always held on to the fence…when I took this image it made my heart cry since she looked so very sad.

Aloha Susanne, it is brilliantly composed. Your story is heartbreaking, how I wish we could set them free.

  • I am with you Sharon but it will never happen because of the humans…thank you so much for stopping by and reading my little story :)

Wow…what an amazing and emotional piece. I always loved visiting the zoo when I was a kid, but now that I’m older it really is sad that all those animals are locked up in cages and can never experience their natural habitat. Seeing any primate in a cage seems especially awful since they seen so human. This one looks almost as though she’s reaching out for help, it really is so sad.

Wonderful photo though, I love the composition.

  • Thank you so much Beth….the first thing that came to my mind was the same as yours, reaching out for help, he/she had such a sad look in her eyes…and you are right as a child I loved going to the Zooo myself but that changed quickly…thanks so much for stopping by :)

Wow! I agree with you 100%! It is heartbreaking to see such fine animals being locked up! But it they were to be set free they would all die. Thanks to us humans. Who think it is so cool to have a wild animal. Then when they grow up it is too much to take care of and then give them up. So now they have to live like this. Makes me so mad. But you did capture my heart with this heart felt capture and then you added the story. My hat goes off to you.

  • Oh I know KatsEye…yes they would die and thanks to Humans they have a place to stay but they also have a Cougar there that someone wanted as a pet but that did not work out at all…I wonder why lol…when I was watching the Apes and I kid you not for about 2 hours they just sat there holding on to the fence no movement what so ever and I know why….I did a little research on this so called Zoo and they are thinking if this Zoo should stay open or should the animals transfered to a real Zoo….there are no trees for the Apes to climb on just a little fenced in shelter and I hate that it so upsets me…the Zoo is below standard so I read so I went to check it out myself and I am disappointed…thanks so much for stopping by :)

Very haunting image Susanne ~ I agree with all above and hate to see them caged ~ especially when they do not cater properly for their needs.. here in Dorset we have a place where they are trying to do something about helping to rescue primates .. if they have to be caged then this (and probably similar places elsewhere in the world) are the best for them as they cannot be reintroduced into the wild.. Monkey World gives them a lot of room to move around and really cares about them .. here’s a quick link if you’d like to look http://www.monkeyworld.org/home.php … susie

  • I love Monkey World thanks so much for the Link Susie…I read the stories and it is so sad to read what people do to animals it makes me so mad…I see that they provide a great playground for them but here no they just in a little cage which I hate and I think something needs to be done about it. Great place for Monkeys
