A Hole for Heaven’s Light
I was very angry when this poem came to me. It seemed the earth was so covered with distorted ideas that God’s light could not get through. Then I saw the light.
I match this poem with my painting called,
“The Blackened Web Melts Back”.
A blackened web
A close-knit shroud
Encompasses the Earth
Of many words
Ideas of men
Enwoven tight and thick.
Though Heaven’s light
Does brightly burn
Still Earth in shadow lies.
A life laid down
A seed to die
Is planted in the crust
To grow on high
And burrow through
The shroud both tight and thick.
As leaves unfold
In warmth and light
The blackened web melts back.

As George MacDonald loved to say, “When I feel like the door closes, God opens a window to let in the light.” (I have to paraphrase because my MacDonald book is in storage: >)
Nicely framed observation, Susan.
Susan E Ward replied
George MacDonald certainly understood. Thanks for the reference. Here’s my painting that goes with this poem.

So fitting Susan.
