Brachina Gorge, Heysen Range Region
Print of Pastel Painting
The beautiful and rugged Heysen Range area is very awe inspiring. It is no wonder that the famous Australian artist Hans Heysen was known for his paintings of this region along with many other areas.

Wow, Susan I saw this image on the recent additions in the gallery and knew it had to be one of yours! Your pastel work is just so inspiring, and this is no exception!

Thanks Michelle, your comment has put a big grin on my face. I noticed you have been very busy yourself which leaves little time for producing more work by ‘our own hands’. Yesterday I started another large pastel of the Mount Remarkable area with water in a creek so watch out for that one if you are interested as I will post it on my blog as well as WetCanvas, probably late Monday. Cheers, Susan

Love the area,, have been there a few times.

Thanks everyone….. I do consider this work one of my best. Ronald after the recent rains that way I reckon it would be looking very good at the moment.

I found this work by entering “pastel” in the Redbubble search engine – well worth the search. You do right to call this one of your best, not that I have seen the others yet. I have chosen it for my Favourites and now plan to look at the rest of your work. I have bought some pastels and a book about pastel painting, but i am still nervous of trying it. I have tried oils, watercolour, ink, pencil, watercolour pencil, gouache, acrylic … but for some reason, pastels scare me. I think it’s the idea that if your hand is sweaty you can smudge the painting.

Dave I am so sorry that it has taken be all this time to get back here to check all my comments.
If you are interested with how I do work with pastels I have a blog (address in my RedBubble profile) that I show my works in progress. I also have a lot of hints. Pastels are not really all that hard to do as long as you go in lightly and build up your layers. Don’t even bother using a smooth paper because you will quickly become disappointed with the results. I use a sanded paper called AS Colourfix. There are others out there but found AS paper the only one I can purchase in Australia and do love it.
