Years ago my artistic Muse was the Owl…If I was in a creative block or just needed to get my energy up, I would paint an owl.
In my early years of finding out if I was an artist or not… I painted every type of owl known to man…this painting is one of the only owls I have left, I painted this over 30 years ago.

Today this is one of the ways I get my students out of blocks… I ask them what they want to paint not what they feel they should paint.

Often times I see my students fall into blocks either through feeling they have to keep up with others in the class or they get lost in their talent and can’t seem to find the path to completing a project.

Painting what you want to paint lifts the pressure of performance and they reestablish the feeling of painting for themselves.

Snowy Owl is an oil painting on artist stretched canvas, 20" X 24" in size.

Thanks for viewing my work.

I enjoy a full time career as a working Fine Art Artist and Natural Lifestyle Photographer.
To me, my art and photography is the best way to express what I see around me.
I also teach both mediums and I host 3 and 4 day Art and Photography Workshop Retreats through my private studio on my desert property in Nevada/Arizona.
I formed Elbow Canyon Fine Art & Photography Retreats several years ago to offer my students a unique one-on-one instruction.
Thanks for viewing my work

What a wise looking fellow…and so pretty. The intense look in the eyes is really something, Susan. Even if he’s 30 years old, he’s still beautiful!

  • LOL…yes I would always do the eyes first…it sort of set the mood of the painting…and with owls I guess the eyes are the most dramatic…thanks Barb…always appreciate your support!

how wonderful this is…..the painting and the wisdom of the writing you share….thank you, my friend, for sharing….i know you must be such a wonderful teacher….

  • Thanks jan…I so enjoy teaching…there is no better feeling then seeing my students having an “Ah-Ha” moment from something I say or suggest. Creative blocks are just this side of depression and can totally lock up a person who does not know their options. Thanks for viewing and as always your heartfelt comments…
