This piece is study after a drawing my step-daughter acquired years ago…I have again attempted to duplicate the beautiful power of the pencil…there are such treasures that hide in the end of a pencil…
I have given my first manditory in my art classes this week…everyone is to do one pencil drawing a week aside from all of their other creations in paint or pastel…the lowly pencil must take center stage once a week.

This pencil study was drawn with a #2 graphite pencil, on card stock, acid free, low tooth, bonded artist drawing paper and sprayed with a final professional spray fixitive to preserve and prevent smudging and fading.

Thanks for viewing my art.

I enjoy a full time career as a working Fine Art Artist and Natural Lifestyle Photographer.
To me, my art and photography is the best way to express what I see around me.
I also teach both mediums and I host 3 and 4 day Art and Photography Workshop Retreats through my private studio on my desert property in Nevada/Arizona.
I formed Elbow Canyon Fine Art & Photography Retreats several years ago to offer my students a unique one-on-one instruction.
Thanks for viewing my work

With all the mandatory assignments, this could be a drawing of one of your students at the end of the week! LOL!!

Beautiful drawing! I respect the talent of drawing, as I cannot draw anything beyond flies!!

  • LOL…I am a task-master for sure…I have to make sure that when people come to my studio, they are there to learn, not just as an alternative to being in the Casino’s!!!…I make it very clear that I am not Adult Day Care!!! (;0)

Very smart requirement Susan, asking your students to draw and sketch. This is a beautiful sketch.

  • …drawing grounds me and helps me make maps of poss. future paintings…there is a collective groan throughout the studio when I announced this, but some agreat stuff is being accomplished…thanks Jim!
