Pondering The Way- Detail Study

An original Pastel, Prismacolor Pencil, Pen and Ink drawing.

Drawn on card stock, bonded, acid free, low tooth artist drawing paper. I use a bonded paper with low or no tooth for the smooth blending abilities and so the pastels are colorpencils are not chewed up during the drawing process.
Thank your for viewing my art.

This is another posting for my drawing and painting students…a request was made that I show my work in a detailed close up for the purpose of study.

outstanding, susan…..i am continually in awe of the gift you have and the spirit of the native americans which you capture so brilliantly…

  • Susan Bergstrom replied

Thanks Jan…I have no idea where the Native American fascination comes from…it may have all started when I was a child, living up in Valentine, Nebraska and growing up several miles from the Rosebud Reservation…it was a constant source of gatherings, music, singing, costumes, and interaction just in my everyday life…but I find myself very drawn to this culture.

susan….i feel like your deep connection to the native peoples may be a past-life thing….maybe?

  • Susan Bergstrom replied

funny you should mention…I have re-occuring dreams of a native american village…I see people walking around, doing daily chores, men riding horses, I hear children laughing…I am observing all of this but I have a definate feeling of familiar….maybe it is just memories of when we would attend the pow-wows, or who knows, could be a past life???

  • Jan Landers

    Jan Landers

feels like a past-life to me….do you ever see yourself there? or feel like you are part of what is going on?

  • Susan Bergstrom replied

I always feel like I am part of what is going on…I can remember passing all of the indian women sitting outside the city jail on monday morning on my way to school, they were waiting for their husbands to get out from the weekend stay. They would always have trinkets and “familiars” (tokens) for me…I still have them to this day…a bear,an owl and yep you guessed it… a hand carved howling coyote that they called Moon Dog. I truly have vivid memories of my childhood and the Native American people…they were all around me…my mother almost had a stoke when I said I wanted to grow up and be an Indian Maiden….LOLOLOL…so I guess I have explained my fascination with the “People”..and why I have re-occuring dreams…as for a past life, I doubt it…I do however recall one from the early 1700’s (it seems)...I lived on the east coast, had a boarding house and walked around a widows walk waiting for my husband to retuen fron Sea…even found the house …in Maine…

Hope you didn’t mind, but I pulled this one up on the digital projector tonight while lecturing to my own students. I’ve started using some other artist other than myself so that my students are exposed to some different styles and mediums. Let me know if you’re not comfortable with this, thanks Susan.
