Hidemi Tada
stunning and shining, Susan. I am getting really tired with portrait and oil painting. i will try pastel work for a while.
Susan Bergstrom replied
Remember it is mostly Prismacolor pencils and then adding the pastel…use a smooth paper…not much tooth, it will frustrait you, grabs the pencil and you can’t get a smooth blending surface…Good luck…b-mail me if you need any further tips..oh and the biggest secret is the initial drawing!!!

Susan Bergstrom replied
Thanks so much…I mis it when I am away from it so long but it is pretty much like riding a bike…I just pick up the pencils and they do the rest…!
JenLand
I second that, you are an amazing artist! This is beautiful work. In your hints to Hidemi, you mentioned to use paper with not much tooth, what paper do you use?
Susan Bergstrom replied
It is so unprofessional (my paper) that it is funny…it is the 12”x 12” scrapbook paper you can buy in packs at Michael’s or any art store, it is a very comfortable size for me to compose on…or you can buy single sheets and buy more the colors you like…I never draw on white paper because I want my subject to be the focus and I am basically lazy and don’t want to figure out a background (HA)...anyway…this scrapbook paper has two sides, one is smooth and the other side is somewhat rough to the touch…I pretty much always use the smooth side so I have the blending ability…b-mail me if you have any more questions…I have no secrets…have taught for over 30 years…love helping others to another level in their art…Thanks for the view and the wonderful comment…
