"End Of The Trail"
“End Of The Trail” is a signed, original, pastel and prismacolor pencil drawing.
Drawn on card stock, acid free, bonded no tooth artist drawing paper.
All of my drawings are sprayed with a final professional artist protective fixitive.
The romance of the West, Southwest and the Cowboy is a subject I always return to. I live both in Colorado and in Nevada, so I have an endless supply of personal photography that I draw from for these drawings. I personally developed this sharp focus pastel and prismacolor pencil technique to make my drawings come alive.
My studio is located in Mesquite, Nevada.
As with all of my artwork , my initials are on the front with full signature, title and date on back.
Thank you for viewing my art.

I love your technique Susan. Your work is so full of interesting light. This one is very pleasing. I love those cowboys too.

Thanks so much Carol…I am a cowboy junkie and my light in my work is mostly to draw the eye to the main subject..I try and get this effect in my photography but I make a point of it in my fine art! Thanks for your kind comment!

Hi Susan – just read your “no sales” rant and all the responses and had to come see what you have. You really are an accomplished artist – this is remarkable and the technique works really well. I used to live in Montana and would yearly attend the Charlie Russell art show and auction
- there are hundreds of booths of folks trying to sell original artwork and it draws huge crowds of folks with money (I know I bought some things) -I am sure it is juried and there is probably a waiting list for a booth- but it might be something you would want to check into -your art would certainly fit in well there—cheers and good luck – daveSusan Bergstrom replied
Thanks so much Dave for viewing some of my gallery and my work…I have been selling my work for years at gatherings just like the one you mentioned…I am of the mind anymore that I will sit on my originals for a few years because in this ecconomy…people just do not have the money to pay me what I feel the pieces are worth. Thank God I don’t have to survive on the sale of my work…we have two corporations my husband and I run and I have a load of private art students…so long story short, until the time presents it’s self, I will just stick to networking and wait out the rocky times where artwork is concerned. I thank you though for your suggestion, I recieve 2 to 3 invites every couple of months to attend these artist gatherings and I have stopped all of it for the time being. I will just wait for better times and look forward to the small sales I make here on RB.

Scott Denny
My being Native it is nice to see this title on something other than a statue of a defeated Indian.
For me the “End of the Trail” statue of a Indian on a horse does not mean defeat. For me it means an end of a way of life.
My forefathers and all those of Indian Country fought hard to keep their way of life alive. In the end I do see it as defeat. Indian Country still fights today to be recognized.
In American much more attention is put on other minorities. For Natives it is sad. Before there were African Americans, Asian Americans, and HIspanic Americans there were the indigenous people of this beautiful land.
There is a greats sense of “end of a great day” with your image. No matter what work has been done, your image show us the day was good and it is time to settle in for the evening.
A very soothing piece of work.
Susan Bergstrom replied
Thanks so much Scott for sharing your feelings and thoughts…I never try to show my Native American work in defeat…more fanciful I’d say…more as a vision of a child… as I grew up near the Rosebud Reservation in Nebraska…as a child the pow-wows were a sense of wonder and left images in my mind for a lifetime.
I am in hopes my representations of the Native American never offends anyone…
Thanks again…
Scott Denny
I am sure you work does not offend Natives. I have check out a number of your pieces and they are very nicely done.
I have found in life you may offend someone. The point is it is not in your heart to do so.
I think you have very nice work. :-)

F.A. Moore
Oh man, I’m sorry, Susan. I kept thinking I should contact you to verify Mesquite (Texas). I’ll change it now so future readers will know it’s Nevada!! Congrats. And thanks, Carolyn, for guiding Susan to the right moon landing. ;)
Susan Bergstrom replied
Totally not a problem…like I said I’ll live on the moon for such a wonderful Honor and spotlighting of my work…I just did a journal entry with a link to the site of your group and the mixup about where I live will just bring a chuckle to any and all …and from last count I have close to 15 pages of people who watch me …this will bring much traffic to your site…so put the coffee pot on!!! LOL Thanks again so much!
F.A. Moore
Inside Solo is the magazine of the Solo Exhibition group, Susan, of which you are a member. Every Friday, I publish a new issue, which, among other things, features members of notes, or images of note, plus 3-4 mini-features. The Solo Exhibitions themselves are the 12 featured works in the normal “features” gallery of the group, which are always one person’s art (rather than 12 persons’, for example); thus the term, “Solo”. Past solo exhibitions are archived in the forums, as “permanent galleries” named after the exhibitors/artists. Hope you will take a look around there some time and enjoy. We have a wonderful, and exceptionally talented group. Thanks for being part of it.
