Artist's Description

The sound that a flock of yellow-tailed black cockatoos flying past makes is quite distinct and just a little bit overly noisy. But I usually love to hear that sound as they pass over my house travelling in search of food. They flock in quite large numbers and when they decide to settle in a tree or two you’ll know about it if those trees are anywhere near you. Besides being loud they can be quite destructive as they use their strong beaks to break into flowers for their seeds, breaking off small tree branches in the process. Then one day three birds broke off from the main group and decided that the spent flowers on my banksia looked mighty tasty. They then spent the next week returning both morning and night enjoying their feast and the mess they were making of my garden. Luckily the banksia bush was large enough to handle the abuse and I was generous enough to accept the help with pruning that they provided. Oh and yeah they kindly agreed to model for me. Hopefully if they return they won’t bring the entire flock with them.
