This is GREAT!!!!!!!! Love the composition, the touch of purple color and contrast of blue and yellow…..Something really deep about this image….something hard to explain but very intimate….

  • Thank you, Vitaliy. I’m glad to see you again.
You’re right about the contrast of colors, that’s where it all ‘s begun, the clash of cold and warm. At that time I was interested in Hieronymus Bosch’s art, well-known for its painted metaphors and symbols. For instance: goose or swan in medieval bestiaries appears as a symbol of hypocrisy and deceitfulness of the external form – beautiful white plumage hides black meat, so the appearance contradicts the essence. It explains why it’s placed in front of the brothel. Other elements also have their own meanings

There’s an aweful lot of things that meet the eye that the meanings escape me, like the white goose with the knife slicing through its neck and the face carved below the steps outside the brothel. Awesomely done my friend!!

  • Thak you very much, John. I’ve seen the black colossal sculpted body parts scattered on the streets and squares all over San Marino (sovereign state surrounded by Italy), that’s probably where this head came from. The goose is surely from Bosch’s paintings (detailed explanation for Vitaliy a little higher).

I was studying this thinking how appropriate the rain is over the entire scene. Then I wondered why the angel and so brightly done as to draw attention to her. My first thought was that there was good among all the ravaged souls here and then I realized she could be a different kind of angel all together. Brilliant work Sergei.

  • Thanks for your attention, Donna. She is definitely a different kind of angel. The one with the wings could be of another kind. The rain here is a kind of holy bathing to wash sins off.
I’m afraid, when it’s all being explained it doesn’t leave any space for your own imagination and perception
