This rendering is part of a body of artwork I did while I was in the Military, entitled ," The Army Years". One of my most exciting ride on a helicopter , was when I was serving in the U.S. Air force- Civil Air Patrol, we were helping the National Guard to figure out the fastest flight paths between hospitals, for future Air transportation of patients. So while we were making a trial run, I was strapped in a side seat, with the door locked open, we flew parallel to the ground, the experience was awesome .One of the things I loved about Civil Air Patrol was doing a lot of flying.I served 9 years in the U.S. Army, during my 9 year of my service,I was a Combat Engineer, Anti tank Toe Missile Crewman, Combat Medic. I spent a lot of time in the field, and one thing that is important to the support of ground forces, is the pilots who fly the helicopters , for the helicopter delivers supplies, the mail, transport troops, air lifts wounded soldiers off the battlefield to the hospitals. This is why I entitled this illustration, " Support Is On The Way. "

Thank you for you encouraging words. This sketch was done while I was on the mission field, one of the missionaries son, love the army, and he had this plastic model of a Huey Helicopter, so I did this rendering of it in flight, and gave it to him. He late grew up and joined the Army, He is in the Special Forces, and is married and has children .Stephen

I love this piece of art! My father who passed away in July, was in the army for 22 yrs. He was a private investigator and mp (cop) for president Eisenhower (spelling) and Nixon. My sisters and I got to go on the Army One when I was a little girl. This drawing brings back memories.

Beautiful! Spectacular detail – I love pen and inks! this is outstanding – especially the sight of the chopper making the grass move = the sigh of relief! Very beautifully done! xx

  • Maxy,
Here a little info on Support Is On The Way. The helicopter I used as a model in this picture, is actually a plastic model , that belonged to a missionary kid,who is now serving in the army. I used my imagination to put it in flight. The grass and sky were the easiest subject I have ever rendered in my art career. It just flew right out of me with out effort. Which is not the norm for me in my working process.
