The King Who Conquered Death

Painting size : 4 ft. x 5ft. canvas

Medium : Acrylic

Year : 2002

This painting illustrates scriptures that show God’s plan to remove the power of sin over man and creation, through the death of Jesus the Christ, His only Son, crucified and raised from the dead.
the figures on the left illustrate John 3 : 14 – 15, where Jesus tells Nicodemus that , just like the Israelites who were bitten by the serpents, had to look on the bronze serpent with faith, to receive healing from their bites, so must sinners look with faith to Christ’s death on the cross, to have the penalty for their sins removed.
The figures on the right illustrate Matthew 12: 39 – 40 , Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees and Scribes, who refused to believe He is Messiah. When they asked for a sign, Jesus told them the only sign He would show them was the sign of the prophet, Jonah. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, and then was spit up on the shore, so would Jesus be in the heart of the earth for three days, and three nights, then God will raise Him from the dead.
The figures in the center of the painting illustrate Revelation 1 : 12 – 20, The apostle John describes the appearance of The Glorified Christ , Who is speaking to him in a vision. He describes Jesus’ appearance as being bright as the sun.
God has put all authority and power over the earth and The Heavenly Kingdom in Jesus’ Hands. Christ will reward the faithful servants of God and He will cast the unbelieving , Satan, fallen angels into The Lake Of Fire.
Jesus has been given the keys to Death and Hades, and He will destroy both.
In His new kingdom, there will be no place found for them, for sin will not exist.
Jesus the Christ is the church’s High Priest and He will offer up the prayers and praises to God on our behalf. He empowers the church to do the work of God in a fallen world.

Interesting words and beautiful artwork Stephen. I wonder if people are waiting for miracles before they believe in Jesus again. I believe Jesus just wanted us to look deep within for our own power. To really have faith in God through our own hearts and to be honest with everyone including ourselves. If we all did this then sin and death and hades would not exists in my opinion.Further if we lived with honesty I believe life would be a miracle every day.

    Tony,

My understanding of scripture, Jesus’s works of miracle were preformed to validate His claim to be God’s christ, sent into the world to conquer the power of sin over man. When John The Baptist was in prisioned, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the christ, and Jesus told them to tell John of all the signs and mircales He was preforming , that were the fulfillment of the prophecies about the coming Christ , made by the old testament prophets. This is why when ever The rulers and religous teacher would try to find fought
with His teaching , ( to put Him to death ) Jesus , would reply, If they didn’t believe His words, then believe His works and the miracle He performed.
Here in the united states, and most likely around the world, ther are many religious leader, who put on a circus preformance , with false miracles , and signs and wonders, to drawl people to follow their twist on the gospel of christ. But the true marks of a messenger or servant of God is His own obedience To the teaching of God’s Word, both in their public life as well in their privet life.
I believe God still perfoms miracles , and i believe He works some of them through His faithful obedient servants. I also believe the Devil also try to counterfeit God’s signs and wonders. How does a person discern which is real and which is false, Which is of God, Which is of the Devil ? Simple, look at the conduct of the life of the person who is preforming the miracle, Is Their twist on the gospel message pointing people to turn from living a life of sin, and live in obedience to God’s word ; or is their message pointing people to follow and obay Them ?
Well tony it is a pleasure to converse with you over theology.

Thanks Stephen. I really appreciate your passion and words. I think you have a very strong and pure message. On a personal level we just differ a little. I was brought up Roman Catholic and was raised with teaching about sin and Evil and the Devil. As I have experienced life however I have found it to be beneficial to search deeply into evil for understanding rather than judgment or fear.

In my opinion the Devil cannot be bad in essence given he , along with all of us was created by God. I truly believe that humanity will find eternal peace so long as they go deep within their hearts for truth and understanding of life. Think you and I are probably similar in motive and will perhaps come closer togeather in thought over time.

great work and full of depp interpretaition as usual – I find it interesting you have the serpent and the (DNA) helix symbols in this – hidden meanings

  • Stephen J. Va... replied

    Alleycatsqarden,

Jesus told the religious leaded, that healing from the cruse of sin would come from Jersus offering Himself on the cross to pay the penalty for sin,so that whoever would except this by faith, turn from sin would be saved; just as God told moses to make a bronze serpent and place it on a pole, so whoever was bitten by the serpent, look on the bronze serpent with faith, they would be healed of their bites and would not die.
their is a rainbow around the serpent , and around the crusified christ to represent the covenants God made in the two incidences.
I hope this answered you question. Read John chapter 3 , to get a better understanding.
Sorry I was late in answering you question. Tonight is the first time I read your comment.

This reminds me so much of my life, it took my eye as soon as I spotted it. The work looks ancient and I very much appreciate the work that must have gone into it. The colors of blue hues and the royal purple with gold objects is so well put together. The narrative is a testament to you for that alone this is a true and powerful image. Bravo

Strong, graphical work. Had to come see it up close. I like your artwork, Stephen.

For Solo Exhibition, I wish the work could have been captured without the frame and background, or at least cropped so that only the painting showed.

  • Stephen J. Va... replied

I wish I was good with computer programs so I could crop the frame and the background out of the photos of my work, but don’t posses these skills yet.
