Wendy Slee

Night Stalker....beware who follows you home....

It was late…. a hot summer’s night. I arrived home to a dark, empty house, and a slow walk up the garden path, telling the kids to wait in the car until I got a light on.

We entered the house and I set about getting the kids ready for bath and bed.

Unbenown to me, someone had followed me into the house. Under the cover of darkness he had been lurking in the garden and used my tired state to assist him in entering my safe little home.
And he was about to make his presence felt.

The back of my neck prickled and I rubbed it, thinking my shirt label was annoying me. Nothing there. Then I felt it.

He put his arms up my shirt and ran his fingers down my spine.
I froze. His small hairy hands tickled my back, gently, tenderly. Deceptive.

I called my son for help.
“I think I have something in my shirt,” I said, “Can you check?”
I held up the back of my shirt and he took one look, screamed and ran from the room.

Does the colloquial expression “I damn near shit myself” spring to mind?
(I promise I did not..er…do that….... but there was a bit of a frantic leap in the air and a strange dance…....arms flapping….as I had to separate this huntsman spider from my person! LOL
But then, I did the right thing and put this big hairy guy back out in the garden where he belonged, unharmed…... though maybe he was as scarred by his experience as I was!!!

ooo I had someone put a toad down my back and I know your feeling it is an awful feeling .. but what awesome captures of the spider!!

Oh Wendy!! So well written, it sent chills down my spine – and glad it was that and not the spider! Much as I like spiders, they have their place, and it’s definitely not on humans! I remember years ago walking past a hallway mirror and glancing into it only to see a large hunstman on my shoulder. I did a funny dance then too!

  • Wendy Slee replied

I think the whole idea of this hairy creature being inside my shirt and against my skin….well it still gives me the shivers now!!!!! LOL…..

  • Lucindawind

    Lucindawind

wow ...awesome shots ! Im not a fan of spiders but they are awesome shots x

  • Wendy Slee replied

It is pretty freaky just what is in there when you get a closer look! Not that I would opt for a closer look EVER! But the camera lens gives a bit of security…lol. thanks Lu!

  • blamo

    blamo

    You are very brave …...........

  • Wendy Slee replied

No I am not! If you had heard me scream and watched me jump about, you would know that….LOL…... I think the poor spider got a bigger fright…he just sat on my broom after that and let me do the mug shots…..

  • blamo

    blamo

LOL at least you let him live

  • Wendy Slee replied

I can’t bear to hurt them…... flashing my flesh at him was cruel enough LOL….. ( I always catch spiders on the broom and run them out of the house unharmed…..)

You are a good writer! I enjoyed this story even though I hate that you were scared. I’m not scared of snakes, we have few poisonous ones in my area though, but I’m terrified of most spiders…which is a shame because I live in the woods and so live with spiders in almost every dark nook and cranny.

  • Wendy Slee replied

I have fear of both,.....but also respect, and try not to harm either. LOL but I also try to keep as far from them as possible! Especially NOT to wear one!!!

One of the main reasons I’ll never live in Aussie!!! The second being Snakes! Great photos though. :-)

  • Wendy Slee replied

Tell me about it! It really creeps me out at times…...sigh…but being on a farm, and in an old house, I have to learn to live with all the scary, slithery things and either laugh about it …or take pictures of them! (Doesn’t stop me being terrified though!) And yes, I always reckon you guys who live in countries without snakes etc,, are sooo lucky!

  • Danielle Knight

    Danielle Knight

OMG, i felt ill reading this story. I would have dropped dead, right there at the thought of it. I also would have ripped all my clothes of, jumped in the car, and slept at a hotel for the night.

I cant kill them, move them, look at them, let alone photograph them. But i would have to move out of the house….....until I was sure it was gone.

    lol

  • Wendy Slee replied

I have to confess there was not one, but two that night, but only one came in contact with me…..lol….you needn’t worry, I am currently looking over my should and under my pillow, and definitely freaking at the slightest feel of anything ticklish!!! They are not my favourite house guests!

  • Matt Penfold

    Matt Penfold

Beautifully written Wendy, I didn’t see the image while I was reading so the spider was quite a relief LOL…. . Humans can be much scarier than spiders :-)

  • Wendy Slee replied

OH yes indeed! I would rather have spiders in my house (dare I say it, even on my person LOL) than a lot of humans I have met! Thanks Matt!
