Now called Australian grasses. I’m not sure why they were called Black boys in the first place…they DID have black trunks, but they always begin green. Back in the politically incorrect days, a lotta weird things happened, so I guess I don’t want to know!

It was on an assignment to build a cultural development centre in Menai for the Gunangurra people. It was a long time ago, fraught with difficulty fo me, project wise, as I was doing FT uni, and working two jobs, before mobiles phones. It was great to learn more about the people, but as a photographer, I felt I had little to contribute.

Thought it was being young and inexperienced then-now I know it was about time management-but I learnt! >you need to give yourself space> budget yourself into your life!

The best thing was hearing the representative speak, and I loved the photos taken at the site.
