PTSD

PTSD

A little about this painting…....
The eyes show me looking out from a chaotic landscape. In the landscape are bright, vivid colours which expresses how raw my nerves are and how sensitive they are to stimulation around me. With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I see every movement and hear every sound.

One of the most significant parts of this painting is the third eye. One might think of mystical symbolism but the eye is placed as a barrier between me and the person I’m speaking with. That eye “watches” for signs of threat which would then cue me to kick into survival mode and talk my way out of danger. This is something I learned when I needed to learn it but it does not serve me well now. The “third eye” therefore represents hesitation, mistrust and falsified ease.

Last but not least there are several stunted trees and several outlines of eyes growing from flower branches. You will see lighting, flowing rivers, rolling hills and mist all coming together to form the painting “PTSD”.

Thank you for looking,
F. Magdalene

You walk along the line between seeing and perception. They are different things but to most of us seem to be the same as they unite in our conclusions. Instead, here you separate them presenting a visual which may be perceived through your lens or through that of any of your visitors’. The result is a powerful trip through the plane and into a whole world of imagination, feeling and thoughts Magdalene. Wonderfully conceived.

This is extraordinary on several levels. You have captured the essence of PTSD and have expressed the hyper-sensitivity of this painful disorder with exceptional talent and amazing artistry. This is truly remarkable.

A beautiful painting with such vibrant colors, interesting elements and intriguing design. It stands on its own as a piece of art. When viewed with the explanation it captures the issues you struggle with quite well.

I can so relate . . . the cracks and shattering, the third eye (which I think of as the eyes behind my head), but I’m also struck by the beautiful colors, trees, flowers, which I see as the triumph of being able to see and experience beauty in spite of . . .. Congrats on the well-deserved features. I’ve missed a lot while I was gone . . . you’ve been doing some great work, Faith!
