Sandy ~ The Frankenstorm by SummerJade

Sandy, the ‘almost hurricane’ also known as the Frankenstorm, hit southeastern Connecticut on a Monday with high winds that caused widespread power outages. This is the sky at 1:23 in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. It’s gloomy, eerie and strangely beautiful. The return of electricity is still about 25 hours away. There will be no Trick-or-Treaters tonight because there are no street lights. It will be too dark and not safe. The large tree is an oak. It had leaves on Sunday, but lost them in the high winds on Monday.
This photo is unedited, it really looked just like this. Best viewed large.

This wonderful silhouette composition perfectly conveys the feeling of Sandy’s fury!!!! Bill

  • Thanks, Bill! ☺ Oddly enough this shot was taken facing straight east so the bright spot can’t be the sun at 1:23pm. Probably it’s the only place it could break through the clouds. I went outside to try to take a pix of a helicopter. There was a missing teen reported as last seen about a mile away (as the crow flies) from our house. The noise of the helicopter circling ’round and ’round drew me outside.
We lost mostly leaves and a few dead branches. Guess it was worse down your way (closer to NY).
