On this cloudy August day Eolia’s many windows seem to be staring out at Long Island Sound. Through the arched wrought iron gate and across the oriental garden see the large arched windows of the conservatory. There are no weddings here today.

Canon EOS REBEL T1i, Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm.
Converted to B&W and then edited in Corel Paint Shop Pro to low key style using curves and levels. Low key is used to create a more sinister appearance.

This is Harkness State Park in the town of Waterford in Connecticut USA.
The gardens were designed by Beatrix Farrand and are very beautiful.

What a magnificent place Jade and this is just gorgeous in b/w. You’ve created such a mood here. Fabulous image!

  • Thanks, Lianne. Basically, I don’t like B&W. I see it as “information withheld” and I want to see/know all. ☺ But there are a couple of B&W challenges going on, and I felt “challenged”! lol So… I chose a photo with very little color to start, one that was somewhat gloomy. I really appreciate your generous comments!! ♥♥

Wonderful job with this image and really fun to learn the history of it.

  • Thank you, Tania! The 2nd floor window surrounded by ivy, as well as the 2 facing the Sound are in the (modern rental) “bride’s room.”
The low wing at right was originally maid’s quarters. This was a summer home, used only for 6-8 weeks in season. The mistress complained that it was damp here. lol Her other choices must have been fabulous!!

    Nice shot!!

  • Thanks!! I’m thinking that this shot would have worked for a selective coloring challenge too. The big flowering bush is covered with white and purple flowers. ☺ RB has invaded my brain!! lol
