Artist's Description

These shells are what remains of this day’s tide and they rest here on the sand in what remains of the daylight of this day. Notice the way the setting sun projects an image of the shell’s hole into the inside of the top shell. ♥
“The Remains of the Day” refers to evening, when a person can reflect on the day’s work. Evening is symbolic of old age, when one assesses one’s life, but “remains” suggests that there is time left, that there IS a future. The Remains of the Day (1989) is the third published novel by Japanese-British author Kazuo Ishiguro. (credit to Wikipedia)
