The Yuletide tour at Winterthur includes this tiny village, a Christmas decoration popular in the 1940s. Winterthur, an American country estate, is the former home of Henry Francis du Pont. The home opened as a museum in 1951. It is located in Delaware, USA.

The decorations and the old scuffed wood bring to mind the Christmas song…
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Let your heart be light,
From now on our troubles will be out of sight.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay,
From now on our troubles will be far away.
Once again as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore,
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.
Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow.
Until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow,
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Oh I love these villages – we have a display here at the house too that I so enjoy. But I remember Winterthur at Christmas – and they used to have a charity ball there during the Christmas season that was a highlight of my “single” life many years ago. Such a beautiful place, Jade and you’ve done it proud!
This was my first visit to Winterthur, but I hope it won’t be my last. It was a dreary day and rain sprinkled while I was in the gardens. The rooms were dim with “candlelight” and I’m not happy with my flash photos. My non-flash blury shots still make great memories for me, though! ☺ Thanks for sharing your memories!!
