This is the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia as seen from the Fayette Station Road loop. Much of the river through West Virginia is designated as a National River, one of the American Heritage Rivers of the United States.
High above the River is the New River Gorge Bridge which carries U.S. Highway 19 over the River at a height of 876 feet, the highest vehicular bridge in the Americas.

New River Gorge National River is a unit of the United States National Park Service. Established in 1978, the NPS protected area stretches for 53 miles (85 km) from just downstream of Hinton to Hawks Nest State Park near Ansted.
