Red-Winged Blackbird ~ Immature Male by

With the snowy backyard below him, a redwinged blackbird visits the bird feeder on a winter’s day. Overall black with buff or orange edges to his feathers, this yearling red-wing has copper on the shoulder, not yet showing his future red marking. The bill is conical and pointed.

Location: southeastern Connecticut (USA).

Beautiful Work, he looks shy LOL,

  • Yes, he does. I was puzzled by how he appears to be wearing a mask and doubted he really was a red-wing, but I have been assured that he is one, but just a yearling. ☺♥

lovely bird and shot, don;t think i’ve ever seen a young one so close and well

  • Thank you for your comment! I had doubts about the redwing, but guess it takes time for the bright colors of the full grown male to develop.

I have never seen a young red-winged blackbird. Thank ;you so much for sharing him. He’s quite cute. Great shot.

  • Thank you, Carol, I thought he looked like a little bandit because he seems to have a mask, but maybe it’s only they lighting. ☺☺☺
