I spent so much time whining about my lack of weblife, that I started thinking.. if the Web now defines so much of who we are… it really is inevitable that one day we all will be little more than brains and a pair of arms hooked up to the WorldWideWeb – maybe we already are… or at least, my sleep-fogged brain helpfully told me that, complete with imagery inspired by War of The Worlds, of a huge brain and stick arms bashing on keyboards… I however, foster a belief that we all are going to go back to the old elegance of handwriting, but this time on digital paper… perhaps it will come back onto true paper… highest resolution to date…
But with funky things like 3D browsers, Second Life, tablets, the Web Ver. 2… does it not make you wonder… what will happen as we all fuse into one huge bank of collective consciousness like never before…? (movie plots notwithstanding) ‘cuz right now, even with so much of the world population wired up to the Web, there still exists individuality in the form of nationality, race, gender, etc. Pockets of resistan- err, people – remain that don’t have a computer, much less internet access… and yet there are places where they have a breathtaking 100gig per second cable access…
On the Web you can be anyone and anything… it’s such a dazzling place.

a collective consciousness like … (putting on funny ears and plucking my eyebrows severely) ... the Borg? We are becoming a force of life as ‘no man’ has ever been before!
Vulcan grip aside, it makes you wonder if we really are all part of the same organism. Um, nope. I’m over it. But I do like the ideas you express, Sugar.

fair enuf, but i still prefer real life, the net is a good distraction.

thinblack, yeah! When I first heard that from my dad I was a little upset… only a liiiiitle though… ‘cause the humour was quick to come to the fore, heheh..
Anne; ... but I don’t have enough eyebrow left to pluck aaaaah… But wait! I still have my funny ears, muahahaha! (tries to scramble out of Vulcan grip) Man, are Vulcans the ones that can make heads go ‘splode? I never sat down to watch Star Trek properly… maybe I should. :3
I’m really fascinated by any mention of Borg, or anything regarding human-machine integration; it’s almost something old ‘cause everyone and their grandmother(possibly) knows it – all the android/cyborg/humanoid machines media, everywhere – I have thoughts that already it’s happening, since people are very machine-dependant. It’s just that in comparison, the links are much less tangible.
And for us being part of one organism… toying a little with the concept of reincarnation… maybe we’re all just many parts of one particular individual… next question… who was the original man…?
... man, I’m rambling. =\
Greg; heheh. Sometimes, when I’m really into something that’s online, I get irritated when real life comes knocking… but it’s all good… ‘net distracts from real life and vice versa. :3
