I really like the way the woman in the center is standing on the two black squares. At first glance there’s a bouquet of flip flops but when you look closer you begin to see individuality. Every single one of the shoes has something different about them, then of course there’s the child without shoes on. He appears to be the smallest of the group. I say he because his toes aren’t painted. For me this little guy is the center piece. For some reason my eye goes right to him.
    This is another wonderful piece.

Thanks Austin for your kind remarks. Don’t know if you read my description or not, but the woman in the middle is the 16 year old big sister of 6 siblings in the family. The couple that commissioned me told me to do whatever I wanted to do in the painting, but it had to be of her 6 children. So I brought a ladder with me to there house and started taking pictures of them all. When I presented the mom with the painting, she started to cry and said that she couldn’t believe how I captured all of their personalities by just painting their feet. That was a wonderful feeling.

Yup I did read it. I’m bad about not reading the commentary but this time I did but I don’t remember if it was before or after I came up with my own interpretation. LOL

I love this piece, the image is so bold… i can understand how the mother was able to see each of her childrens’ personalities in it, and we can see a piece of you in it too!
