The Invocation stands near the entrance of the Stark Museum of Art. This monumental sculpture portrays a Plains Indian lifting a buffalo skull in prayer. He asks for the preservation of his people. According to the artist, the sculpture also shows “the moment when human aspiration soars and we rise above our daily lives".
By Buck McCain, painter and sculptor, grew up as a fifth generation cattle rancher in Southern California. Although he enrolled in a pre-med program in college, he discovered his love of art while taking a humanities class. McCain currently resides in southern Arizona where he continues to paint and sculpt. His work can be found in museums and corporatons across the country.
