Smoky Mountain Rain

Gary L. Suddath

Smoky Mountain Rain

A shower before the storm in the Great Smoky Mountains. This was made from the breezeway or dog-trot of Ephraim Bales Cabin, located along the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Two types of fencing can also be seen in the picture. A rock wall on the left and a wooden picket fence on the right. The sound of the rain falling in the forest was as relaxing for me as it was for Ephraim over a hundred years ago.

Hey Gary, I was here Tuesday, instead of sleeping after working all nite. I just had this urge to go to the mountain and take pictures!!! I paid for it at work that nite after only 3-4 hours of sleep! This is beautiful, such a great place to be!!!!

This reminds me of camping as a kid. Nice example of how to capture more than the visual in a photo-I can hear the raindrops on top of the tent, feel like I am wearing my slicker and smell the forest. Wonderfully done Gary and welcome back!

I agree with the two comments above about camping when it rains. It’s refreshing on a hot day and its refreshing to the soul if you are citybound too much.

Awesome shot Gary. The Roaring Fork river must be very long, my daughter used to live in Colorado and her house backed onto this river! When we visited over a year ago, there was a mudslide further up the river. It turned a reddish brown right before my very eyes….amazing!!!

Gary, I envy you for all that “green.” This climate is so dry that our natural landscape is nothing but sticky weeds and cacti. A beautiful picture. xo

A slice of Eden you’ve got yourself here, Gary. So green and vibrantly alive!! Its very white and grey up here in Canada at the moment..our country becomes so abstract in winter. Lovely to have this one to relieve my eyes! :)
