Artist's Description

Although first used as an aid to the blind, the keyboard typewriter, in the mid-19th century, quickly became indispensable in offices. It was greatly welcomes because, up until that time, Stenographers and telegraphers could take down information at rates up to 130 words per minute, whereas a writer with a pen was limited to a maximum of 30 words per minute. With the invention of the typewriter, a professional typist types usually in speeds of 50 to 80 wpm which was a great improvement.
