Is this mine to tell...

The Shaman walked through
The maze
At first the way
Was clear
Confident for she
Had foretold!
But what she didn’t know
Was this was not hers
To tell…
Taking no note of
Sign posts
The portents remained clear
But only to eyes that saw.
The path became rutted
The sky turned dark
The mist rose up
And entered her bones
But still she didn’t care
Confidant this was hers
After-all…
So steep became the incline
So dark she could not see
The cold had sapped her strength
So she took some time
To be…
Fear nipped at the edges
Hunger gnawed
Reminding her of life
So surely
As the Shaman this was her plight?
Then came a howling sound
Unlike any creature from this earth
Terror gave her momentum
And she took flight.
She raced
Back from whence she came
(or so she thought)
Headlong into a
Ring of fire
And there she beheld
A nightmare
That can-not be told.
A net was thrown
And she was caught
Strung up
She was fore-quartered
Too late
Realisation had finally dawned
Her arrogance had cost her
Her life
