The awakening

The child
Felt
Saw
Understood
So why was she
Always in trouble?
Too loud
Too wilful
Too emotional
So into the cupboard she’d go;
To be hid or
Put.
Well the child
Learnt quickly
So a mask was applied
A band aid in effect
For wasn’t she broken?
Didn’t she need fixing?
The child grew
The woman forgot
And the façade became
She… until
One day a
Crack appeared.
Misunderstood and confused
There were numerous remedies applied
By she and others…
Again intact
Time went on
And the woman remained the same
Yet not…
Underneath there were such
Profound forces
A heat like a forge was born;
Rage
Tumult
Angst
Self-loathing
And oh so much sadness,
That they all bound together
And a battle axe was formed
And it cleaved her through.
Out spewed such toxins
That both she and those
She loved most
Were appalled
And so the self-loathing expanded.
The woman shattered.
The world; it seemed,
Did not contain
Enough glue.
So instead she hid in
The cupboard or in truth
It was
The bin…
For wasn’t she
Just rubbish
To be thrown away?
But even there
She couldn’t escape
From herself
And all the while
The distressing cry of a
Weeping child…
She spent an age
Looking
And though she found
Foul odorous things;
Of herself,
There was no
Little one…
Exhausted by
Her life
She lay down to sleep
And in her dreams
She roamed free to find
A tiny babe…
Her cry
Told a story of such lament
That the woman
Could not bare
So she picked
The little one up
And cuddled and soothed
Held her to suckle
At her breast…
The child
Looked longingly into
Her eyes
And said;
“Where have you been?
I have waited a life time.”
And with that
The woman awoke
The babe was she
And there was no
Turning back!
