The cycle

The tie
Too tight
He plucks at
His collar;
A yoke that
Won’t release…
Resigned
He plods the
Well-worn road of
Western man…
His employer;
A nasty piece of work,
Uses men as stepping stones…
Today like all the days before;
He vents and rails at this
Hapless chap…
Emasculated through
Years of abuse…
Eventually the day
Has finished
He trudges
Back to
Withdraw to
His cave…
His wife
Frazzled to distraction…
Juggles a job
Kids and home;
Throws up her arms
In despair…
And before she can take
Her anger back
She yells at the child who
Shattered the air
By the sound of
Spilt milk and broken glass;
‘It was an accident Mummy…”
Heart-sore the little one
Runs out side
And kicks
The dog
Who was excitedly wagging
It’s tail…
The child
Confused
The dog
Cowers
What in the world have we
Come too…
