Now is not then

As I tiptoe through
My memories
I am saddened by
What I see;
Thousands of shattered
Pieces
That once
Was my heart
Each time I pick
One up
It slices me to the
Bone
I begin to run and
Gather more
But become so
Slick with blood
I haemorrhage to my
Core…
Turned inside out I realise
There is no
Escape
The taste of iron
The sea of red
Only heightens my fear
That I am
Truly stuck
Yet a deeper knowing
Tells
That I must
Cauterise these wounds
For they
Cry of
Times past not
Of now
Memories are
Just that
And with a sigh
I wake readied
With a tourniquet to
Bind my heart and
Stand in the
Dawn
Of my new day…
