No trespassing!

Our cities are planned
Our streets laid out
With all the houses in a row.
The fences
Physical barriers
To say “Keep Out.”

So we sit
Ad nauseum
Alone with our possessions.
Do not ring the bell or knock
For thou shalt not trespass…

Do you remember
A time where door and window were unbarred?
The sugar bowl and kind words;
Between neighbours,
Shared.

Is this the price
We pay
To live in a city?
The loss
Of community
For the fear
Of trespass…

No trespassing!
