The coming of age

The maelstrom raged
Her cotton shift offered her
Little protection
The ache within
Had nothing to do with the cold
Like twigs
Seemed ready to snap
Yet the subtle ripening be told
Of change
The ringing in her ears
Besieged her to stop
Her feet;
Dead weights
No longer obeyed her,
Yet her mind
Refused to yield
Instead it manifest a
Fire in her belly
Desire in her heart
With eyes ringed red
She stared at the summit
Before her
The climb began
Pain became her friend;
For the path she’s on is
Life itself,
Fortitude and faith sustained
Her small form
The periodic view of
‘What can be’
Enough for her to
Push on

She arrived at the water’s edge
Azure blue; a child no more,
The depth be-told of sweet content
The tatters of her outer-self
Fell away
To reveal all she had endured
There were seven steps that
Took her down
Each allowing a
Letting go of earthly matters
Immersed completely in the
Living waters
She slowly breathed out
To curl up and be held
This cradle rocked her
Eyes wide open
The stars triangulated
Moon’s shadow gave her insight
Her lub dub joined with
The heartbeat of humanity
A reminder she cannot quit
Time gave out
Stretching to stand
On the softest silt
She began her rise and
Crossed over into

I woke with this imagery in my head the story came as i wrote…
it is the belief of Judaism that when a person turns thirteen they take on the responsibility
of an adult and thus be self determining. In order to do this requires not just ‘turning’ 13 but rather a learning of themselves and what is means to be a Jew. There is a ‘rite of passage’ that they must go through to do this. This poem in some small way talks to this…

My images and writing are unfiltered or edited. i just shoot the photos, create the pictures and the words come from somewhere inside without much if any thought or consideration.
My desire is that they might effect someone in a positive way…
A footnote… I’ve explored PS with cars…!
